Animal Welfare Concerns Outside the U.S.

April 26, 2018

It often seems like animal welfare concerns are a topic of discussion limited to the western world. Certainly, there has been focus in the West for longer than many other areas of the world. But the topic of production animal welfare is proving to be a global trend and often conventional hen housing is the top focus. Unfortunately, most of these efforts are being led by animal activist groups. In a recent example, Humane Society International (HSI), a sister organization to the Humane Society of the United States, hosted Indonesia’s first corporate animal welfare roundtable. HSI focused the conference on cage-free hen housing. A recent article in Poultry News provides further details about this meeting.
