California Farm Animal Confinement Initiative is Confirmed for November Ballot

June 28, 2018

On June 22, California’s Secretary of State, Alex Padilla, declared the ballot initiative “Establishes New Standards for Confinement of Certain Farm Animals; Bans Sale of Certain Non-Complying Product” has qualified to be placed on the November ballot. Nearly 30 percent more signatures were collected than needed, making it almost certain it would qualify.

The referendum requires cage-free housing with usable floor space, as defined in the 2017 UEP Certified Cage-Free Guidelines, for laying hens housed in California and for laying hens whose eggs are sold in California by 2022.  Additional information on the initiative can be found at Ballotpedia.
