While the nation’s biggest retailers, restaurants and food manufacturers have made commitments to use only cage-free eggs by 2025, they are not lining up to buy them right now, which is putting egg farmers – who need to start the costly conversion process now in order to meet these commitments – in a tough spot, says United Egg Producers (UEP).
