“Eggceptional” Start for Shell Egg Academy

October 3, 2019

The first Shell Egg Academy provided participants with a comprehensive overview of relevant topics for live hen production and egg safety.

Dr. Deanna Jones USDA AMS presented “Mislaid eggs: When hens go rogue”

Organized by Dr. Darrin Karcher, Extension Poultry Specialist from Purdue University, poultry scientists and other industry experts focused on issues and subject matter important to the attendees who work in the egg industry. Hands-on instruction on environmental sampling techniques and egg grading were part of the coursework.  Participants received certification after completing an exam at the end of each session.

The Shell Egg Academy (SEA) was created as a result of the Shell Egg National Needs Assessment conducted in Fall 2018.
