Two components of President Trump’s $12 billion aid package for farmers affected by current trade skirmishes are under review at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The Market Facilitation Program will make direct payments to some farmers, while the Agricultural Trade Promotion Program will make more funds available for foreign market development. The latter program may provide some funds for poultry and egg export promotion. A third part of the aid package will purchase surplus commodities but has not yet been sent to OMB for approval.
