More Companies Reporting Cage-Free Progress

October 3, 2019

Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) recently released its third annual EggTrack report. The report tracks and reports on the progress of 128 of the 270+ companies that have made cage-free commitments in the United States.

The number of companies reporting to CIWF increased from 27 last year to 51 this year.  Companies reporting for the first time include Wal-Mart (14% of goal achieved) and McDonald’s (33% of goal achieved).

The report states that 22.18 million layers will need to be placed in cage-free housing per year for the commitments to be met, 1.72 times the current transition rate.

The report encourages customers to work with suppliers now to achieve their commitments. It also highlights CIWF’s messaging to egg customers on how they define proper hen housing.
