Senate Subcommittee approves $151.7B Ag Appropriations

On September 17, the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee approved the $151.7 billion FY 2020 Agriculture Appropriations Bill by a voice vote without any amendments.

The bill provides $1.028 billion for USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to continue programs that help control or eradicate plant and animal pests and diseases. The bill also supports agriculture research through the Agricultural Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture with research funding totaling $3.172 billion. The bill also rejects proposals for project terminations and laboratory closures that were included in the budget request. On Thursday, the full Senate Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY 2020 Agriculture Appropriations Bill.
