Dr. Mindy Brashears is the Trump administration’s nominee to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Food Safety, overseeing the Food Safety and Inspection Service. Brashears is professor of food safety and public health at Texas Tech University and is also director of the International Center for Food Industry Excellence.
According to USDA, Brashears’ “research program focuses on improving food safety standards to make an impact on public health. Her highly acclaimed work evaluates interventions and pre- and post-harvest environments and the emergence of antimicrobial drug resistance in animal feeding systems. These efforts have resulted in commercialization of a pre-harvest feed additive that can reduce C. coli and Salmonella in cattle.”
Brashears’ nomination will be considered by the Senate Agriculture Committee and requires confirmation by the full Senate. See also, “Secretary Perdue Applauds President Trump’s Selection for USDA’s Under Secretary for Food Safety.”
