United Egg Producers announced the new UEP Food Safety Advisory Council. UEP’s original Food Safety Scientific Advisory Council was formed to provide expertise as the FDA Egg Safety Rule was implemented across the industry. UEP thanks the dedicated scientists who provided expertise in the development of viable practices to improve egg safety.
At UEP’s Annual Board Meeting and Executive Conference in October, the Food Safety Committee and Board agreed to take more proactive actions on current and future food safety challenges by focusing on prevention. They directed staff and consultants to repopulate the Food Safety Advisory Council (FSAC) with experts who can address current and future food safety issues facing the egg industry.
A subcommittee was formed to develop a mission statement and provide recommendations for members of the new council. UEP thanks the Subcommittee members: Karyn Kreher (Chair), Mohamed Mousa, John Bedell, Dr. Ryn Laster, David Ebel, and Nate Taylor. After diligent work, subcommittee members, staff, and consultants began confirming qualified individuals to populate the council.
The council will work under the mission statement established by the UEP Board to provide recommendations and creative solutions for the current and future food safety challenges that emerge facing our industry. The council is comprised of 20 subject matter experts, each with unique experience and qualifications. The first meeting of the FSAC has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic but will be scheduled as soon as feasible.
Below are the individuals, with their areas of expertise, who will serve on the council.
