3rd activist group tracks cage-free, pressures companies

January 21, 2021

The Humane League has issued a “Cage-Free Eggpose” calling out companies that have made cage-free commitments but are either not reporting on progress, have passed the deadline, or have removed commitments from public statements. The Humane League cites nine companies for failing to fulfill their commitments: Omni Hotels and Resorts, Einstein Bros, Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, Raley’s, Wawa, Wendy’s American Food and Vending, Opaa!, and Southern. This report follows similar reports from the Humane Society of the United States and Compassion in World Farming’s long-standing “Egg Tracker.”

Last year, Burger King, a division of Restaurant Brands International (RBI),  removed a reference to its cage-free commitment from its website and social assets, and then received strong animal activist pressure. In December 2020, RBI released a new cage-free commitment targeting 2025.  After the Humane League report was released, several companies provided updates on their cage-free transitions.  Read more in “After Eggsposé, cage-free progress updates offered,” from WattAg.
