H7 LPAI in Missouri

The National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) confirmed a case of H7 presumptive LPAI in Jasper County, Missouri in a commercial turkey premises on March 3.   UEP staff began noticing changes to the Export Library on March 5 and started confirming rumors of what had occurred over the weekend.   No additional cases have been reported.   The UEP staff will continue to monitor and report on any additional developments in the coming week.   As spring approaches, it is time to review farm biosecurity protocols with employees and visitors.

H5N8 in Bulgaria

An infection with the highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza was confirmed at a poultry farm in the town of General Toshevo in the region of Dobrich, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency said yesterday. On February 26, samples were sent to be tested for the virus and the positive result were received on February 28.  Sales of shell eggs from the affected farms were immediately suspended.  Sixty tons of eggs and 139,000 egg-laying hens were destroyed at the farm where the virus was found.
