Several government rulings were featured prominently in the press recently. Feedstuffs reported on USDA’s proposal for further processors to develop HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system) in “USDA proposes to amend egg product inspection regulations “which quotes Oscar Garrison, UEP’s SVP of Food Safety.
USDA’s ERS (Economic Research Service) issued a report “Impacts of the 2014-2015 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreak on the U.S. Poultry Sector.” Poultry World summarized the report in “Costs of US avian flu outbreak in 2014/5.”
The ERS also published “America's Diverse Family Farms” which proves farming is still predominantly made up of family businesses. Further states 99% of U.S. farms are family farms and account for 90% of farm production.
“Growth in U.S. Ag. Exports to Korea Outpaces the Rest of East Asia” is another USDA report highlighting the growth of major U.S. exports to Korea from 2016 to 2017 including a 734% growth in the export of eggs.
