Experts to Speak on Egg Safety and Plant Sanitation
United Egg Producers will focus this year’s Area Briefings on egg safety and plant sanitation. At the Legislative Meeting in Washington, D.C. in May, the UEP Board directed staff to develop and present egg safety and plant sanitation information to the full membership focusing the delivery to production, processing, and sanitation managers. UEP is excited to announce an agenda packed with relevant material and subject-matter experts. Chad Gregory and Oscar Garrison will kick off the meeting with a state of the industry address covering topics ranging from Animal Welfare and Cage-Free to Environment and Government Affairs.
Next on the agenda will be a discussion on the aspects and developments associated with the 2018 Salmonella Braenderup Recall and how enhanced foodborne illness surveillance has changed the regulatory landscape of the food continuum. Tony Wesner and Peggy Johns, of Rose Acre Farms, will provide a firsthand account of the recall, FDA investigation, and mediation steps necessary when a farm has a “link” to an outbreak. Dr. Deana Jones, Research Food Technologist, Egg Safety and Quality Research Unit, USDA Agricultural Research Service will provide a comprehensive overview of the egg packing sanitation study from 2004-2005. This will be followed by lessons learned and new research needed to focus on preventing the horizontal spread of Salmonella on shell eggs.
Dr. Christina Alvarado, Professor Poultry Science, Texas A&M University, will provide attendees an overview of Egg Processing Plant Sanitation, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and stopgap measures to help ensure egg safety on modern production farms.
Please plan on attending one of these important meetings, along with your company’s production, processing and sanitation managers. This is a unique opportunity to receive the latest industry updates and network with industry experts and peers. Click here to register for 2018 Area Briefings
