On August 31, the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Feed Industry Association, National Association of Egg Farmers, National Chicken Council and National Pork Producers Council sent a letter to Senator Roberts and Senator Stabenow urging support for the “Protect Interstate Commerce Act” (PICA) amendment in the Farm Bill authored by Rep. Steve King.

Their letter explains the intent of PICA “is to uphold the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution (article 1, section 8, clause 3) and to end some states from implementing laws and regulations requiring farmers to adhere to their method of production that goes beyond how other farmers are producing their products”.

UEP proudly represents 90 percent of the egg production in the U.S. and has successful, independent members on both sides of this complicated and controversial issue.  Therefore, UEP has decided to remain neutral on this amendment.
