Biosecurity is Essential During Fall Migratory Season

November 8, 2018

With the migration of wild birds in progress across the U.S., UEP reminds all poultry owners to use extra vigilance ensuring compliance of biosecurity practices and monitoring of flocks. Several resources from UEP, USDA, and USPOULTRY are available to support biosecurity protocol development, education, and training for farm employees, vendors, visitors, and owners of backyard flocks. United Egg Producers supports the use of these resources to help ensure your flock stays healthy.

  • For a quick review of biosecurity and a great learning tool for new employees and visitors, check out the UEP animated video, Biosecurity on U.S. Egg Farms,”(less than 5 minutes). This video can also help customers, and the public, understand the stringent biosecurity standards and best practices implemented on U.S. egg farms to protect flocks. It also is available in Spanish.
  • USDA has developed Defend the Flock, which includes several resources to help commercial and backyard flocks ensure biosecurity.
  • USPOULTRY funded the development of a biosecurity training DVD. "Infectious Disease Risk Management: Practical Biosecurity Resources for Commercial Poultry Producers" is designed to aid in program development tool, training, and teaching for more effective biosecurity practices.
